According to the developer Apple refuses to update MapTiler. At the time I write this Apple is offering version 0.5.5 but the current version is 0.6.4. I can’t get the latest version and am missing out on much needed improvements that came in later versions. I recomend the app but buy it direct from Klokantech. I think as a general rule in the future I will only buy through the Apple store when I am unable to purchase a product direct from the developer. At this time Klokantech has not been willing to help. Here is an email response I received: Apple refuses to upgrade our MapTiler in their Mac App Store, as they increasingly restrict the capabilities of distributed software (things like reading ESRI World File coming with a TIFF or JPEG are not possible anymore with an app distributed on their Mac App Store. They also do not allow selling higher licenses of our software without getting 30% claim - we consider to stop to support Mac App Store completely, because of the recent practice of Apple Inc. There is no way how to verify whether you are our customer and licensee of MapTiler via Mac App Store - as Apple never share customer data with developers. Contact Apple for a refund - and purchase the license from us directly. I am sorry. Petr

Generates tiles quickly, they render great at different zoom levels. Only thing id like to see is the ability to set default empty tile colors. (I purchased the upgrade)

No manual, no idea

I would love to give this app a good review, but the lack of ANY MANUAL at all makes it pretty much useless.

I had hopes for this app but it doesn’t work for me on 10.9,

This program is not compatible with OSX 10.9.1, or at least if it is, there is no documentation to make sure I have the right software/hardware. I open the program, and click on the button that says “Open a file…” and the program freezes. That’s pretty limiting right there, since the interface doesn’t work, but if you drag a file in it will load it. Unfortunately, after all is said and done, when I click on the “Render” button, the program freezes. I have to recommend people to wait until a more stable version is released.

Works on my Mac 10.9.2 Rudimentary program that does what its says it does, quickly. I purchased the upgrade to get rid of the water mark and be able to control zoom levels. What it does is pretty simple, but I know the math behind it is complicated. There are open source command line tools alternatives and I have used them. However the WYSIWYG nature of this tool along with its preview mode eliminates a lot of wasted time. I like the fact that it can generate a folder structure or an MBTiles database as output. The folder structire is useful if you have different image files for different zoom levels, while the direct to MBTiles database is useful if only a single image is used.

I tried to use the function to georeference an image. It choked, and gave me a message that the “georeferencer was broken.” This is on 10.10.3. Didn’t bother trying other functions as this is a dealbreaker.

Buyer beware, App Store description is incorrect, MAPTILER IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LATEST OSX. Any OSX update means that your copy of maptiler will cease to function, then they will force you to pay AGAIN for the update you already purchased in the past. Unbelievable.
